Los Angeles Dodgers ace was working on a perfect game through seven innings before a severe thunderstorm rolled through and forced a two-hour rain delay. When play resumed, the manager opted to pull him after 94 pitches to protect his arm early in the season.

The right-hander retired all 21 batters he faced, striking out 11 and generating 14 swinging strikes with his devastating slider. It was the deepest anyone has taken a perfect game bid this season.

Despite not completing the feat, the performance signaled that the Dodgers' rotation is operating at an elite level as they pursue another division title.
