The Kansas City Chiefs have locked up one of their most important defensive players, signing Pro Bowl linebacker Darius Monroe to a five-year, $112 million extension that makes him the highest-paid player at his position in NFL history. The deal includes $68 million in guaranteed money.
Monroe, who recorded 142 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and three interceptions last season, has been the anchor of Kansas City's defense for three years. General manager Brett Veach called the signing a 'no-brainer' during a Tuesday press conference at team headquarters.
The extension keeps Monroe under contract through the 2031 season and signals the Chiefs' commitment to building around their defensive core as they pursue another Super Bowl appearance.
