The NBA Board of Governors has unanimously approved expansion teams in Las Vegas and Seattle for the 2028-29 season, growing the league to 32 teams and commanding $4 billion per franchise in expansion fees.
Seattle SuperSonics Return
Seattle's team will reclaim the SuperSonics name abandoned when the franchise moved to Oklahoma City in 2008. The team will play in Climate Pledge Arena, already home to the NHL's Kraken.
Las Vegas
Las Vegas's team, yet to be named, will build a $2 billion arena on the Strip. The city now has franchises in the NFL, NHL, WNBA, and NBA.
