Major League Baseball has officially implemented the Automated Ball-Strike system across all 30 stadiums, ending the era of human home plate umpire ball-strike calls after two years of minor league testing.
How It Works
The system uses Hawk-Eye cameras to track every pitch with millimeter precision and instantly communicates the call to the home plate umpire via earpiece. The human umpire relays the call traditionally.
Player Reaction
Players are largely supportive, with pitchers appreciating consistent zone calls and hitters pleased that borderline pitches are judged objectively. Ejections for arguing balls and strikes have dropped to zero.
